Overlay is an independent publication launched in June 2026, but has been in the making for quite some time. We got tired of noisy telegram groups with an unnecessary amount of emojis and fed up with tipsters on X throwing cash around, so we started something we could call our own, and be proud of.

We use publicly and privately sourced data to score every runner in every race on a particular card, and apply strict rules to the differential we need to see between the top horses to stake, NAP or Next Best any horse, given the context of the race.

We have had days where 6 out of 7 selections have won with ease, and days where the considered alternative has placed at big prices across the card. Wether you follow the staking plan, or use the analysis and selections to put together your own bets, that's entirely your call. For transparency, our results are based on the staking plan as we're here to try and deliver steady profit.

How our scoring works

Every runner we look at is scored across eleven factors before it gets near any publication. Without getting too technical, we look in depth ad form and fitness, class, pace, the draw, and how the race is likely to be run. We then look at the trainer's record the jockey's record at the course before looking at their current form. A horse only becomes a selection when the scoring says it should be.

What happens next?

Our small team have lived every side of racing for decades - we've ridden, trained, owned and bred racehorses. We've had our eyes open the whole time, and have amassed a wealth of experience and nuanced knowledge that we layer in over the raw scores. We've noticed the yards that don't bet, the trainers that always give one a break before a big run, the jockey bookings that signal intent... ad infinitum!

And finally...

We have a network of connections that we can ask for a little bit of extra intelligence from when it's critical.

The result

A well thought through, fully scored racecard where nothing is left to chance, filtered through experienced eyes and a layer of intelligence that the data alone can't see. You may have noticed that this great game of ours isn't quite as straight forward as it appears, just rest assure that we're not stats/trends nerds or info punters, we're both.

Do you use AI?

Yes we do. In the best way! We gather the relevant data manually and use AI to do the large volume of compute that would take us many hours, and utilise it to do some of the heavy lifting on the design of the publication. This is not a Chat GPT tipping service, the prompt for the scoring alone runs to 10,000 words before we layer in venue information and our notes. This is a straight up partnership between some big brains and some big computers.
